Eric Helms, MASS Research Review

Eric Helms

Ph.D., CSCS

Eric is a coach, athlete, author, and educator. He is a coach for drug-free strength and physique competitors at all levels, including two former IPF World Champions and multiple natural bodybuilding pro-show winners as a part of team 3D Muscle Journey. He has Ph.D. in strength and conditioning from the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and a MS in sports nutrition. A researcher at the AUT Sports Research Institute New Zealand (SPRINZ) since 2017, he is now a Senior Research Fellow and the Co-director of SPRINZ. There, he mentors masters and Ph.D. students studying applied strength and physique sport science. Eric is also a WNBF pro natural bodybuilder and competes in various strength sports.

Dr. Michael Zourdos, MASS Research Review

Michael Zourdos

Ph.D., CSCS

Mike has published many papers in exercise physiology related to resistance training programming, sports performance, neuroprotection, exercise oncology, and more. He earned his Ph.D. in exercise physiology from The Florida State University. Mike previously served as the head coach to FSU powerlifting and previously competed in powerlifting, including an Arnold Classic qualification, but he currently trains as an endurance athlete, specifically for the marathon. Mike is a tenured professor at a research-intensive university, and has mentored many Ph.D. and master’s students.

Lauren Colenso-Semple, MASS Research Review

Lauren Colenso-Semple

Lauren is an expert in women’s health and fitness with a PhD in Integrative Physiology from McMaster University. She writes about exercise for women with a focus on muscle and bone adaptation, the menstrual cycle, and menopause. Lauren has extensive hands on coaching experience working with women in all life stages.

Eric Trexler, MASS Research Review

Eric Trexler

Ph.D., CSCS*D, CISSN

Eric has a PhD in Human Movement Science from UNC Chapel Hill, and has published dozens of peer-reviewed research papers on various exercise and nutrition strategies for getting bigger, stronger, leaner, and healthier. In addition, Eric is a former pro natural bodybuilder who has coached hundreds of athletes with a wide range of goals. Eric currently teaches classes and conducts research related to exercise, metabolism, and cardiometabolic health at Duke University.
